A grateful Tony Watt has tweeted Celtic on the anniversary of the club’s famous win against Barcelona.

It was five years ago today [Tuesday] that Neil Lennon’s side stunned Pep Guardiola’s then La Liga champions 2-1 at Celtic Park.

It was also the game in which Watt announced himself to a non-Scottish audience, after he stepped off the bench to put Celtic 2-0 up late on.

Victor Wanyama had earlier headed the Bhoys in front, and Lionel Messi added a consolation for Barca in second half stoppage time, but the night belonged to the home side and Watt.

Quoting Celtic’s tweet to mark the occasion, the striker wrote: “Thanks for letting me live my dream”.

Despite playing 28 times that season, Watt left Celtic on loan the following August, before signing up for permanent spells at Standard Liege and Charlton Athletic.

Still only 23, the once-capped Scotland international is currently back in Belgium with OH Leuven, who are managed by former Leicester City boss Nigel Pearson.
