Cyle Larin has bid farewell to Besiktas as the Premier League-linked Nottingham Forest target becomes a free-agent, writing on his official Instagram account.

Barely a summer goes by without the Canada international being tipped to pack his bags and head for England. But, with Nottingham Forest in the market for another number nine despite the £17.5 million arrival of Taiwo Awoniyi, Larin could be on his way at last.

According to Fanatik, the one-time Orlando City forward has agreed a move to the City Ground. Then again, such claims should probably be taken with a pinch of salt. The Turkish press do have a bit of a track record when it comes to getting ahead of themselves.

What cannot be disputed, however, is that Nottingham Forest would benefit from further additions at centre-forward.

Lewis Grabban’s contract is expiring while Keinan Davis has also departed. That leaves Steve Cooper with just two number nines – Awoniyi and Sam Surridge – with their Premier League opener against Newcastle United just four weeks away.

“We have accomplished many things together,” says Larin, bidding farewell to Besikas. “We managed to get out of the bad days as a unit and lifted trophies. It was a great honour for me to share these moments with the Besiktas family.

“Unfortunately, it’s time to say goodbye. I’m grateful for your support during my time in Besiktas.”

Larin fired the Istanbul giants to a league and cup double in 2020/21, scoring 23 goals in all competitions. He fell some way short of those sky-high standards last term, finding the net eight times in 39 matches as Besiktas finished a lowly sixth.

Nottingham Forest snapped up right-back Guilian Biancone and goalkeeper Dean Henderson over the weekend. A centre-forward is proving to be more difficult to recruit, however. PSG’s Arnaud Kalimuendo turned down a move to the City Ground.
