Arsenal star Dani Ceballos spoke to Sky Sports about his future at the club beyond the end of this season.
The Spaniard, currently on loan from Real Madrid, has been one of Arsenal’s best players since Mikel Arteta’s appointment. Ceballos is obligated to return to the Spanish capital at the end of this season but Gunners supporters would love to keep hold of him.
Arteta claimed recently that Arsenal are in communication with Real Madrid over his future. (read here) The Gunners are clearly interested in keeping hold of him beyond the end of his loan spell and it looks like Ceballos too is in favour of a move.
He said: “Right now, I’m only thinking about the next games because if we win them, we have some chance of qualifying for the Europa League. After that, I have to be calm. I have to return to Real Madrid and they have to make a decision because I have a contract there for the next three years.”
“Once I know their decision, I will sit down with my family and the people close to me and see what’s best for me next year. But the truth is I’m very happy at Arsenal. It’s a club in which I already have a year of experience, so it would be very easy to return.”
“I wouldn’t have to adapt to a new league or new club with a different manager and players. I think it would be a good step for me. But like I said, my future depends on Real Madrid and right now I don’t know their decision.”
With Ceballos now interested in joining Arsenal, it is up to the two clubs to agree on a deal. However, things are likely to be a lot more complicated than what it looks like on paper.
A few other clubs could possibly join Arsenal in the race for Ceballos if they find out that Real Madrid are open to selling him. The Spanish giants are looking to raise funds through player sales (Marca) which could potentially start a bidding war if multiple clubs come in for him.
Arsenal, on the other hand, are struggling for cash themselves. The Gunners could opt for another loan deal instead of a permanent signing but it will take some convincing to do get Real Madrid’s nod this summer.
