Gab Marcotti has backed the idea of Arsenal transfer target Weston McKennie securing a transfer to Jesse Marsch’s Leeds United from Juventus, as he told ESPN.

The Italian football expert added that this would be a ‘good move all-round’ for McKennie if he were to join Leeds and a ‘great opportunity’ for the midfielder to play in the Premier League.

Whilst Marsch is keen to bring his fellow countryman to Yorkshire, the USMNT international isn’t only attracting interest from one Premier League club.

Several are keen on his talents, including Mikel Arteta’s high-flying and table-topping Arsenal looking to lure the 24-year-old towards their direction instead.

Leeds are already packed with American talent, no more so than the USMNT captain Tyler Adams, who could now have his midfield partner joining him at club level.

Given McKennie’s mixed time in Turin, this is a move that has been backed by Marcotti ahead of transfer deadline day.

“I think Juventus are ready to let him go,” said Marcotti. “McKennie has done better. He had a difficult time at the start of the season. He also had injuries.

“But all of a sudden, they have now discovered younger players – they say ‘alright, we need money coming in after the losses they made’. I am told that Juve want €35m. Leeds haven’t gone quite that high.

“I think it’s a great opportunity for McKennie, not just because Tyler Adams is there, these other American players and this American coach. Simply because the Premier League suits him.

“Turn the page. Play in a different league, with a manager who knows you. Why not?! I think it’s a good move all-round.”

COULD ARSENAL STEAL A MARSCH ON MCKENNIE?

Jesse Marsch is still trying to get his engine going at Elland Road, with a number of high and low moments for the 49-year-old this season.

It’s understandable why he would want McKennie on board and he is a player that would help elevate Leeds’ inconsistent team.

But could Arsenal, who are looking for midfield depth and quality of their own, persuade McKennie to head to north London instead?

In truth, there shouldn’t be much persuading because they are at the top of the league and it’s bringing in cover like McKennie that would allow fans to rest easy if any of their key midfield players were to get injured.
