Weston McKennie’s agent is in London amid claims that Arsenal may try to hijack Leeds United in the race for the midfielder.

That’s according to Italian newspaper La Repubblica, who claim that McKennie’s agent has jetted over to the UK to hold talks over a possible transfer.

McKennie is represented by the huge agency Wasserman and their representative David Muller was handling McKennie’s business in 2021.

It’s stated that Leeds are ‘above all’ in the race to sign McKennie as they make a push to sign yet another American player.

Tyler Adams and Brenden Aaronson are already at Elland Road and international teammate McKennie could join them.

Juve are happy to let McKennie leave and the report notes that Paul Pogba’s imminent return from injury is allowing McKennie to make a move.

Arsenal could hijack Leeds for Weston McKennie

McKennie to Leeds has gathered pace this week and the Whites have every reason to feel encouraged.

Sky Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio reported on Tuesday that Leeds had made contact with Juventus to try and sign McKennie.

Fabrizio Romano even claims that McKennie has accepted a contract proposal from Leeds with a move to Elland Road seemingly appealing.

Yet the big problem for Leeds is the lurking shadow of Arsenal.

The Gunners have lost Mohamed Elneny to injury and he could be out for a while.

Arsenal now want another midfielder and Corriere dello Sport report that the Gunners are looking to hijack the move to Leeds.

McKennie doesn’t quite fit perfectly as the lone anchor man in Arsenal’s midfield but Mikel Arteta may see that kind of potential in him.

McKennie would certainly play a bigger role moving forward at Leeds and a move to Arsenal may well see him drift into a squad role as he has at Juventus.

Joining the American influx at Leeds seems to be the better move, but Arsenal may well make their move before the deadline.
