Spurs are close to completing their third signing of the summer in the form of Cristian Romero.

According to Football London, Tottenham have reached agreed to a €50m (£42.7m) fee for the Argentina defender. As per the report, all that’s left to be done is for Atalanta to sign a replacement for Romero.

The 23-year-old talent has been Tottenham’s main defensive target this window following the arrival of Fabio Paratici.

The Italian transfer guru has so far signed Pierluigi Gollini and Bryan Gil.

Whilst an update on Romero would normally result in an incredibly positive reaction from Tottenham fans, today is a different story.

There’s no doubt that the Atalanta defender will be a great addition to the club this window. However, the news of Harry Kane missing pre-season training has eclipsed Romero’s pending arrival.

As reported by Sky Sports News, the England captain failed to show up at Hotspur Way on Monday despite Kane being due to arrive back at Tottenham.

This has pushed speculation that the striker will leave the north London side to a whole new level. And for supporters on social media, there was a trace of bitterness towards Kane following this latest update on Romero.

Here’s what some Spurs fans had to say about Romero being close to joining the club on Twitter…
