January signing James Sands could be set to make his Rangers debut tonight when Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side face off against Aberdeen.

According to the Daily Record, the loan arrival from New York City FC is in contention to feature tonight with midfield options short for Rangers. As per the report, Steven Davis and Scott Arfield are out due to injury, whilst Joe Aribo is still at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Whilst Glen Kamara and John Lundstram are available for the match, the lack of midfielders for tonight could see Sands make his Rangers debut tonight against Aberdeen in what is a huge match for the Gers.

With Celtic winning last night, the pressure is on the blue side of Glasgow to reply with three points of their own if they are to keep the grasp at the top of the Scottish Premiership table strong.

Sands joined the Ibrox side earlier in the month after Rangers agreed an 18-month loan deal with MLS Cup champions New York City, where the 21-year-old midfielder was a key player for the east coast franchise.

Lauded as a ‘special talent’ by former City boss and current Crystal Palace manager Patrick Vieira, Sands is regarded as one of the top American talents in what is a golden generation for the country. And tonight, Rangers fans could get their first glimpse of the youngster.

Arriving from MLS, it’s an easy assumption to make that many Rangers fans have likely not seen too much of Sands on the pitch aside from the odd YouTube video here and there. Yet the midfielder could show his real quality tonight against the Dons.

Indeed, with Rangers needing a win and midfield options short, Sands could be called upon to feature tonight against Aberdeen. And if the youngster impresses, it will be the perfect way to introduce himself to the Gers faithful.
