Jay Bothroyd has spoken about the type of wages that would tempt William Saliba to sign a new contract at Arsenal.

The former Hale-End academy product stated on Twitter that ‘£200k-a-week+’ wages for the highly-rated star would ‘get the job done’, with his contract running out in 2024.

William Saliba has been an outstanding player for Arsenal this season, in what has been a breakthrough campaign for the 22-year-old, despite signing for the club in 2019.

It would be a crying shame for Mikel Arteta and Co, if they lose such an important cog of their wheel, especially when they have just about missed out on the Premier League title.

Yes, Arsenal shot themselves in the foot during the final few months, but it could even be argued that if Saliba wasn’t injured then the north London club would have faired a lot better.

Nonetheless, when talking about Saliba’s contract, this is what Bothroyd stated that could tempt the player to sign: ‘No chance! (On Saliba signing for £150k-a-week). £200k+ gets the job done’.

PSG KNOCKING FOR SALIBA

The issue facing Arsenal is that they can’t afford to lose a player of Saliba’s talents for nothing in 12 months time.

It’s bad enough losing the player because it would be a monumental blow to the team’s progression, but they have to wake up quickly to the player’s situation, especially with PSG lurking around the corner.

There are no suggestions that he wants to leave and he should be pretty happy in north London, but you still have to sign that contract.
