Arsenal have this Monday posted an injury update on Granit Xhaka, with the Swiss midfielder suffering a knee problem in September.

As per the club’s official website, Xhaka is will be out with injury until the New Year. However, as per the post, the 29-year-old is making good progress way from the pitch.

Xhaka was injured in Arsenal’s 3-1 win against Tottenham last month. The midfielder had only just returned to the side from suspension after receiving a straight red card in a 5-0 loss to Manchester City.

The 2016 £35m signing from Borussia Monchengladbach has been a conflicting figure amongst Arsenal fans this season after the midfielder signed a new contract with the club.

With Xhaka now out until 2022 due to injury, Arsenal are somewhat light in the midfield. And Mikel Arteta will be hoping for no injuries to the likes of Thomas Partey, Albery Sambi Lokonga and Mohamed Elneny.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles can also play in central midfield. And injury to Xhaka could also mean the likes of Charlie Patino could make their first-team debuts in the coming weeks.
