Some Newcastle United fans on social media have been reacting on social media after they were linked with a move for Atalanta striker Duvan Zapata.
What’s the story with Zapata?
Newcastle still want a striker after the arrival of Chris Wood, and it seems as though Zapata is one they could bring in.
According to The Daily Record, the Magpies have actually bid €30m (£27m) for the Colombian, but this bid could fall short as the Bergamo based side want €45m for the attacker.
However, with Atalanta apparently being open to selling Zapata, they may compromise and take the offer Newcastle have made. After all, €30m is a lot of money for a player who is turning 31 in a few months’ time.
What Newcastle need
Zapata could be exactly the time of signing Newcastle United need right now.
Chris Wood is a decent goalscorer at Premier League level, but Zapata has been doing it in Serie A for years at this point.
The South American has hit 56 league goals in his last three full league seasons, and there’s reason to believe that his goals could keep Newcastle in the Premier League this year and even fire the Magpies onto the next level in the coming years.
