Newcastle United are interested in signing Duvan Zapata from Atalanta in the January transfer window, according to The Daily Record.
The report has claimed that Newcastle have made a bid of €30 million (£25.07m) for Zapata, who is open to a move to Eddie Howe’s side this month.
Italian club Atalanta are willing to sell the 30-year-old striker, but they want €45 million for him (£37.50m), according to the report.
The Daily Record have reported that Newcastle are looking at Zapata as an alternative to Darwin Nunez, who Benfica value at €60 million (£50.14m).
Could Duvan Zapata leave Atalanta for Newcastle?
In our view, based on the report in The Daily Record, there is a chance that Zapata could join Newcastle in the January transfer window.
With Atalanta ready to sell the striker and the Colombia international himself willing to move, it seems that all Newcastle now need to do in match the transfer fee that the Serie A club are looking for.
The former Napoli striker has made 14 starts and two substitute appearances in Serie A so far this season.

Zapata has scored nine goals and provided four assists in those games.
The Atalanta no. 91 has also scored three goals and given three assists in six Champions League games for Atalanta so far this campaign.
Meanwhile, The Daily Star have reported that Manchester United want £15 million as transfer fee for defender Phil Jones in the January transfer window.
The Sun reported in November that Newcastle are among the clubs who are interested in Jones.
