Glenn Hoddle has warned Levi Colwill that he will ‘get found out’ when he comes up against a ‘flying winger’ despite dealing with Mohamed Salah during Chelsea’s 1-1 draw against Liverpool on Sunday.

The 20-year-old, who was on-loan at Brighton and Hove Albion last season, was handed a start by Mauricio Pochettino in what was a heavyweight opening game for Chelsea.

Even though Hoddle raised his doubts about Levi Colwill, he thinks that he ‘coped really well’ against Liverpool’s star man on the right, Mohamed Salah, as he told Premier League Productions (13/08/23 at 6:45 pm).

Even though Salah left the field in the second half in a bit of a strop, with some now questioning his future, he could argue that he was Liverpool’s best player.

For someone like Colwill, this is one of the ultimate tests of the season against this Liverpool backline, yes, they have problems in midfield and defence, but that lethal attack is still there.

After Colwill opened his campaign in Chelsea colours yesterday, Hoddle shared his thoughts on the player coming up against Salah.

“I think Colwill might get found out if you have a flying winger,” said Hoddle. “He won’t be tested more than Salah, will he? All season.

“He coped really well. He is a good player Colwill.”

Colwill will be an England International very soon

It’s only a matter of time before Gareth Southgate is calling him up because he is deserving of that senior cap.

Over the summer, Colwill helped England’s U21s win the European Championships, on top of his performances for Brighton last season that led them to Europa League football.

With John Stones being the only reliable and consistent English defender, then Colwill has to get that nod sooner rather than later.
