Kenny Cunningham has questioned if Mo Salah could leave Liverpool for Saudi Arabia before the 2023 summer transfer slams shut after Jurgen Klopp subbed him off against Chelsea on Sunday at Stamford Bridge.

The 31-year-old didn’t take too kindly to that call by Jurgen Klopp and made his feelings clear, with former Republic of Ireland international Cunningham adding that the player felt ’embarrassed’ and he ‘wasn’t happy’.

Despite being one of his side’s best players last season and against Chelsea yesterday, Cunningham also amazingly claimed that Mo Salah is now ‘past his best’, as he told Off The Ball.

That drew a response from former Liverpool player Don Hutchison who simply laughed at that comment and added ‘that is some take’, as he posted on Twitter.

Yes, Salah wasn’t too pleased with Klopp hooking him off because he was his side’s biggest goal threats, the game was still in the balance and he would have been eager to open his Premier League account for the new campaign.

But it will probably blow over by the next game comes about, with Cunningham sharing some controversial thoughts on the player and Hutchison responding.

“I have no problem with Klopp’s decision (to bring off Salah),” says Cunningham. “I certainly have a problem with the reaction of Mo Salah. You could argue Klopp was being clever. Why upset your talisman by taking him off and bringing such a young player on?

“Mo Salah might have looked at that and maybe taken a bit of umbrage with that. Maybe feel he was a little bit embarrassed a bit coming off the football pitch. I have never seen that type of reaction from Mo Salah. He knows all the cameras are on him. He is walking to the touchline and makes his feelings known. He’s not very happy with the manager’s call.

“There is talk and noise around Mo Salah being linked to a number of those Saudi Arabian clubs. If there is an offer on the table, then potentially would Liverpool consider it between now and the end of the transfer window?

“Mo Salah is a big asset to Liverpool. No doubt about it. But he is past his best. It’s as simple as that. He is still a goalscorer. He will still chip in with his fair amount of goals.”

Salah still key to Liverpool’s success

Yes, there has been talk and rumours linking Salah with a move to the ever-growing Saudi Arabian league, but that has been dismissed by his agent.

So, the Anfield faithful don’t have to worry too much about their £35 million star (Sky Sports) heading for the exit door anytime soon.

Salah has already won the lot in Liverpool colours, but with the team now heading into a new era, he will no doubt be keen to lead them to that next chapter and win everything again.
