Paris Saint-Germain have now discussed appointing Steven Gerrard as their next manager after being sacked by Aston Villa. The out-of-work coach also held talks with Leeds United.

That is according to the Scottish Daily Express, which reports the Parc des Princes side are becoming increasingly frustrated with Christophe Galtier. PSG chiefs are frustrated after a 2-1 defeat to Marseille kicked the Ligue 1 leaders out of the Coupe de France in the last 16.

Bayern Munich also lead PSG 1-0 after the first-leg of their Champions League Round of 16 tie. So, Les Parisiens are considering a change in leadership just seven months after hiring the 56-year-old to replace Mauricio Pochettino. He took charge in July on a two-year deal.

Appointing Gerrard to replace Galtier interests the Qatar ownership of Paris Saint-Germain as they view the Liverpool and England legend as a major high-profile figure. They also feel the 42-year-old will enhance them despite him being fired by Aston Villa back in October.

Gerrard spent 11 months in charge at Villa Park and oversaw 40 games in all competitions. His record with the Birmingham outfit stood at 13 wins and eight draws to 19 defeats. The Villans also conceded 52 goals and scored 49 through his tenure before hiring Unai Emery.

PSG are now considering Gerrard just after Leeds eyed him as their next manager

Paris Saint-Germain are yet to decide on sacking Galtier and pursuing Gerrard to be their next manager. Les Parisiens sit five points clear at the top of the Ligue 1 table through 24 games. Yet exiting the Champions League may prove decisive for the Frenchman’s future.

Bayern Munich host PSG for the second leg of their last 16 tie on March 8. Yet Paris Saint-Germain then pursuing Gerrard would be odd after his underwhelming spell at Aston Villa. The ex-Rangers coach has also recently held talks with Leeds over replacing Jesse Marsch.

Journalist Graeme Bailey reported recently that Gerrard’s agent met Leeds to discuss him taking over the Elland Road hot seat. Those talks failed to see the Liverpool legend replace Marsch at the helm, however. Now, Gerrard is a surprise name to replace Galtier at PSG.
