Graeme Bailey, has claimed on the Talking Transfers Podcast that Leeds United have had talks with Steven Gerrard about potentially becoming the club’s new manager.

Gerrard has been out of work since leaving Aston Villa last year.

Since leaving Aston Villa, Gerrard has slipped back into his punditry role on BT Sport, but now he could be set to get back into the dugout.

The Liverpool legend didn’t have the best of times at Villa, but he did do a fantastic job at Rangers, and if he can make this Leeds team click in the same way his Rangers team did, he could be a brilliant appointment.

Let’s not forget either, Gerrard is one of the most well-respected figures in Premier League history, and he has a real winner’s mentality from his playing career.

Leeds fans will be hoping that Gerrard can bring his winning mentality to Elland Road, as the club has had a difficult start to the season. The Whites currently sit in 17th place in the Premier League table, having won just four games all season.

Leeds have had Gerrard talks

Bailey shared what he knows about Leeds and Stevie G.

“Now it’s Nuno Espirito Santo on the radar along with Steven Gerrard,” Bailey said.

“It is those two at the minute, there have been talks with Gerrard, they’ve spoken to his representatives. Intermediaries have touched base over Nuno too, but he has a release clause, which is a prime reason why they didn’t go for Iraola, so I think that’s a big ask. The one thing Gerrard has going for him is that he brings Gary McAlister with him who’s a Leeds legend.

Good option

Steven Gerrard could be just what the doctor ordered at Leeds United.

Yes, he struggled in his last job, but just look at his record at Rangers and what he can do in terms of setting a team up defensively.

His Rangers side conceded just 13 goals in 38 games during the 2020/21 season as they went unbeaten, Gerrard is no mug when it comes to setting a team up, and Leeds certainly need some more steel at the back.

This wouldn’t be a bad appointment at all.
