Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy reportedly negotiated a clause in Nuno Espirito Santo’s contract that will allow the club to sack him for free if Spurs fail to finish in the Premier League top-six.
According to the Atheltic, the Tottenham figurehead was able to include a clause in Nuno’s deal with the club this summer that could save Spurs millions.
Compensation fees can reach into seven figures depending on the manager. Spurs had to pay Jose Mourinho £16m last season after the Portuguese manager was sacked halfway through his three-year contract.
Yet for Nuno, the Tottenham manager won’t be due a single penny should Levy decide to activate a clause in his contract if Spurs fail to finish in the top-six.
A European spot is paramount for Spurs this season. The north London side are competing in the UEFA Europa Conference League this campaign. Yet fans and the club are eager to return to the UEFA Champions League.
Indeed, this contract clause could be used as motivation for Nuno. The former Wolves boss has had a mixed spell since taking over the reins at Spurs.
