Gary Neville has given his assessment of what Senne Lammens added to the Manchester United backline during Monday night’s fixture against Everton.

Lammens picked up another clean sheet as United ground out a 1-0 win over the Toffees at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

It was the Red Devils’ first league game in nearly two weeks, following a 1-1 draw with West Ham earlier in June.

The goal came from Benjamin Sesko, who came off the bench to score and help Carrick’s side continue their strong run. The result gave Carrick five wins from his first six Premier League matches in charge.

Senne Lammens has now kept three Premier League clean sheets from Michael Carrick’s first six matches as Manchester United interim head coach this season.

The 23-year-old Belgian goalkeeper played a key role for Manchester United during the second half, helping to preserve their lead with some composed play in the box.

After the match, Gary Neville highlighted just how much confidence Lammens brought to the defence and named him his Man of the Match.

“The goalkeeper, I thought, was my Man of the Match tonight,” he said on Sky Sports’ The Gary Neville Podcast. “Not necessarily because he made loads of amazing saves, but everything he did, he just did really calmly and well. The tip over the bar at the end. “There was a shot from Tyrique George, wasn’t it? It was just bounced in front of him. He just held it. And then Everton must have had about eight or nine corners.”

Since taking over from Andre Onana as Manchester United’s first-choice goalkeeper this season, Senne Lammens has been praised for the steadying influence he’s brought to the backline.

The Belgian goalkeeper also made an important intervention in the second half, stepping in at a crucial moment to help preserve Manchester United’s lead. His presence was felt throughout the match as he stepped up when needed most.

Neville credited Lammens’ ability to stay composed under pressure, particularly in a match that required calm heads.

“He [Lammens] didn’t deal with every single one, but he dealt with a lot of them,” Neville added. “I think having a goalkeeper of composure, who just does his job calmly, isn’t frantic, isn’t rushing around.

“It makes a big difference in moments like that when you come into a place like this and they’re putting enormous pressure on you.”

Lammens now has five clean sheets from 21 Premier League appearances since joining United from Royal Antwerp last September.
