According to The Athletic, Aston Villa are interested in signing Burnley winger Dwight McNeil this summer.
Dean Smith’s scouting department has closely analysed the 21-year-old’s contributions during games, and they like what they’ve seen.
Someone else who’s also a fan of the 10-cap England Under-21 international is Gary Lineker, who has previously praised Burnley’s No.11.
After the Aston Villa target scored in a 3-0 win over Bournemouth, Lineker posted a tweet calling McNeil a ‘very talented’ player.

Aston Villa should look elsewhere
In our view, the Villans don’t really need McNeil.
Of course, there’s no denying that he’s a fine player, who can deliver better crosses than most players in the Premier League.

However, Smith already has Jack Grealish to play on the left flank, and Bertrand Traore on the right.
Then, there’s Anwar El Ghazi, while Trezeguet is also a winger, although he’s currently injured.
Smith has plenty of depth in the wide areas.

Simply put, the position in which McNeil plays is not a priority for Aston Villa right now, in our view.
Also, seeing as he’s arguably Burnley’s best player, the Clarets won’t let him leave Turf Moor on the cheap.
In our view, the Villans should look elsewhere.
