Could one free agent, an ex-teammate and a Celtic player feature on the Leeds United manager’s shortlist?

According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds United manager Garry Monk is keen to add to his central defensive options in January.

Could the following three names feature on his shortlist?

Steven Taylor (Unattached)

The former Newcastle United defender is on the lookout for a club in Europe after leaving Portland Timbers this month, and a move to Leeds could enable him to return to his North East base. Taylor has struggled with injuries in his time, but missed just three of a possible 15 matches while out in the States – playing every minute of the remaining 12. The 30-year-old was promoted from the Championship once before with the Magpies and his know-how could come in handy for the Whites.

Chico Flores (Lekhwiya)

Monk’s one-time Swansea City defensive partner is soon-to-be out of contract at Lekhwiya and may be keen to follow the lead of ex-Swan and fellow Spaniard Pablo Hernandez, who moved to Elland Road from Qatari football earlier this season. Still only 29, Flores helped Swansea to League Cup success in 2013, alongside the Leeds boss.

Eoghan O’Connell (Celtic)

Could Monk call in a favour from former boss Brendan Rodgers at Celtic? Youngster O’Connell has barely featured for the Bhoys this season and has Erik Svitachenko, Jozo Simunovic, Kolo Toure and Mikael Lustig ahead of him in the pecking order. The Irishman’s contract expires in the summer and a move to Leeds is sure to appeal. A lack of experience may count against him, however.
