A certain Whites star could reach a remarkable milestone this weekend.

Leeds' Robert Green

Leeds United manager Garry Monk has hailed veteran goalkeeper Robert Green whilst speaking to the club’s official website, ahead of the stopper’s potential 600th career league appearance.

Green will reach the remarkable milestone against QPR on Saturday if he is selected to continue in goal.

The 37-year-old joined Leeds in the summer and has been the club’s undisputed number one ever since, playing the full 90 minutes in all of the Whites’ 36 Championship matches so far.

The former England number one has proven a safe pair of hands behind Garry Monk’s defence, and barring an unexpected obstacle will reach his 600th league appearance at Elland Road thus weekend.

Speaking to the club’s official website before the game, Monk hailed the man who is just a year younger than him, and stressed the improvements the goalkeeper has brought to his side.

Monk said: “It [the 600th league appearance] is a fantastic achievement, it just shows what a great professional he is and a great career he has had.

“Rob has done exceptionally well, like everybody else this season, performing at a very high level and also lending his experience to the squad that we have here.

“He has been vitally important, he is a good goalkeeper and that is why I wanted to bring him here.”

Leeds will be desperate to secure a win against QPR on Saturday to ensure that their promotion bid remains as strong as it can be.

The Whites are sitting in fourth ahead of the weekend action, nine points off an automatic promotion spot, but Kemar Roofe insisted this week that the players will not give up hope of attaining a top-two finish.
