Garry Monk has claimed that he can see Leeds United and Everton transfer target, Ben Brereton Diaz, leaving Blackburn Rovers on transfer deadline day, as he told Sky Sports News (01/08/22 at 11:40 am).
There will be some twitchy thumbs in the Blackburn offices ahead of the 11 pm deadline because they have a very big call to make on Diaz’s future at Ewood Park.
A number of Premier League clubs, including Leeds, Everton and Fulham, have expressed interest in signing the player.
But if Blackburn fend off interest in the player, then they are set to lose the Chile international on a free transfer next summer.
So, do they cash in and then risk their chances of a possible play-off finish this season? Or do they bite the bullet and hope they can secure that top-six spot?
Blackburn don’t have the squad to earn promotion, but Diaz certainly makes their life a lot easier, as Monk can see him leaving for a Premier League team before the deadline.
“He should do,” said Monk. “He has been on and off for the last two seasons been linked with the Premier League. It hasn’t quite happened for whatever reason.
“But, in terms of the higher quality players in the Championship that can make that jump up to the Premier League, he is definitely one of them with that potential. I can see why teams would be looking at him.
“Since he made it onto the international scene. His elevation, in terms of performances, seem to have been given the confidence even higher in his performances, so you can see that happening.”
DIAZ IS PREMIER LEAGUE BOUND
Whether it happens during these next few hours or next summer, Diaz is a player destined for the Premier League.
The player’s stock has risen over these past few years, including representing Chile on the international stage and it’s a matter of time before a Premier League team snaps him up.
Money talks and even though there is little time remaining before the deadline, if someone puts the money on the table, then Blackburn might just have to accept.
Either way, Diaz’s future from now until the closure of the window is one to look out for.
