Arsenal fans have called for Patrick Vieira to come in to replace Mikel Arteta, after he achieved what the Spaniard couldn’t.

Replacing Arteta?

Arsenal went to Everton in midweek and were beaten 2-1 by Rafael Benitez’s struggling side.

Vieira’s Palace, meanwhile, dispatched with Everton by the same scoreline yesterday.

It is unfortunate for Arteta that he now has an Arsenal legend to directly compare his results to.

And it isn’t as if he is really coming out on top in the battle this season.

Granted, Arsenal are clear of Palace in the Premier League table, but the expectations of both clubs must be taken into account.

Vieira has successfully transformed Palace’s style, while ensuring that their results haven’t suffered, while Arteta still has some doubters to win over at the Emirates Stadium.

Even a 3-0 win over Southampton this weekend hasn’t been enough to relieve all the pressure building on him.

And there are plenty of Arsenal fans who feel that Vieira is starting to look like an ideal replacement.

Keeping the faith

Thankfully for Arteta he seems to retain the support of Arsenal’s board at this current stage.

There have been signs of promise from the Gunners this season, but they haven’t quite kicked on to the level that is demanded of them.

Arsenal already look like outsiders in the battle to claim a top four spot, due to a lack of consistency.

Arteta’s side are currently sixth in the Premier league table, two points behind West Ham United in fourth.

And if the Gunners do fall further away from the upper echelons of the table then he will only come under more pressure as the season progresses.
