Rangers fans were given the news they’ve been waiting months to hear today when it was confirmed that the Light Blues can return to full capacity at Ibrox from next week’s Champions League qualifier with Malmo – and there’s further good news for Gers fans with UEFA’s ban on away fans in the qualifying and playoff rounds means even more Bluenoses should be able to get in to see Steven Gerrard’s side on Tuesday.

The Gers confirmed that they can return to 100% capacity for home games, much to the excitement of Rangers fans, after almost 18 months of fans having to watch from home due to Covid-19 restrictions.

Rangers last played to a packed Ibrox in March 2020 when they faced German side Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League, but have seen limited numbers allowed inside for games in recent weeks.

Around 23000 were in attendance for the Premiership win over Livingston at the weekend but that will more than double next week for the Malmo clash.

Despite restrictions now being lifted in Scotland, UEFA have restricted access to visiting fans for all games in the qualifying rounds of the Champions League, Europa League and Europa Conference League.

With over 45000 season ticket holders, that means that even if every one of them takes a ticket for the Malmo clash – as well as a potential playoff game in either the Champions League or Europa League – there would still be around 4000 available tickets.

Some of those will go to sponsors and UEFA delegates, but there will be a chance of a small number being made available by Rangers for both games.

After Steven Gerrard called on Rangers fans to roar on the Gers to qualification over Malmo at Ibrox, having lost 2-1 in the first leg in Sweden, the Ibrox boss might just get his wish – and then some.
