The big story on transfer deadline day involved Fabio Carvalho and Liverpool.
The Reds had seemingly agreed a deal to sign Carvalho from at the end of the transfer window only to run out of time to get the paperwork done.
At least that’s what the biggest outlets and journalists were reporting at the time.
Indeed, while the likes of Fabrizio Romano and The Athletic claimed that Carvalho to Liverpool collapsed late on, Fulham owner Shahid Khan has now refuted those claims.
The Whites’ chairman says that Carvalho was never going anywhere in January, stating that the midfielder is a vital part in Fulham’s current promotion push and that he remains committed to that cause.
What’s been said?
Khan wrote about Carvalho’s situation in his programme notes.
“Finally, one last piece on the transfer window. We did receive a lot of interest in Fabio Carvalho, but he wasn’t going anywhere in the last window. We are targeting promotion and Fabio is very much part of that plan and we can all see that he too is committed to that aim, regardless of what his future might look like after this season is over,” Khan wrote.

Uncertain future
Khan says that Carvalho wasn’t going anywhere in January, but he doesn’t sound so sure about his future at Fulham beyond this season.
Indeed, Khan says that he’s unsure of what his future may look like after this term, and with Jurgen Klopp openly admitting that he’s interested in Carvalho, that move may still be on the cards.
We’ll never truly know how close Liverpool came to signing Carvalho in January, but it sounds as though the teenager could still be on the move when his contract is up in the summer.
