Perry Groves says it will be ‘very frustrating’ for Sean Dyche that transfer dealings aren’t coming through at Everton including a deal for Boulaye Dia from Salernitana.

Everton’s financial situation is very well-documented and it hasn’t shown any signs of easing after they narrowly avoided relegation on the final day of the 2022/23 Premier League season.

Former Arsenal player Groves spoke about how a possible ‘swap’ deal, plus some cash, involving Boulaye Dia, who was dubbed ‘really impressive’ by Sadio Mane, and Neal Maupay won’t happen now, as he told talkSPORT.

Last summer, the Toffees paid Brighton £15 million for Maupay’s talents (BBC Sport), yet the 27-year-old has only been able to muster up one Premier League goal.

A lot of money has been wasted by the club over the years, and once again, even during such troubling times, they are managing to flush more down the toilet.

That makes Sean Dyche’s life a lot more difficult, with Groves sharing his thoughts, including claims they are trying to add Dia to their forward line.

“I think they were in for Boulaye Dia from Salernitana,” said Groves. “They were trying to swap him for Neal Maupay and some money.

“But that doesn’t look like it will get over the line either. It is going to be a very frustrating time for Sean Dyche this pre-season.”

Another relegation battle faces Everton…

There aren’t many signs to suggest, even in pre-season, that they aren’t going to be facing troubled waters ahead of the forthcoming campaign.

Just for morale, for confidence and some hope, they need to start the season well because it will ease the pressure on the team.

If they start with a few defeats, then it will only knock the player, coaching staff and fans into deeper negative thoughts.
