Dean Jones has told Give Me Sport that he would be “surprised” if Rangers manage to win the race to lure Jobe Bellingham to Ibrox in the January window – having heard that the talent could follow his brother to Germany.
Indeed, Jude Bellingham is currently regarded as one of the best teenage talents in world football. Starring at Borussia Dortmund and for England at the World Cup, the midfielder is already captaining the Bundesliga side at just 19.
His younger brother Jobe is just coming through the ranks at Birmingham City. He has clocked up 16 senior outings. While it is unlikely that he will be anything like his brother, purely because of Jude’s rise, he is an impressive talent.
Proven as much by his amount of game time at just 17. TeamTalk reported recently that Rangers were one of a number of clubs keen on Bellingham. But Jones says that he would be surprised if Rangers got him, with Dortmund interested.
“It’s worth a try. I would be surprised if this is the path Jobe takes, but he obviously has a lot to consider. That includes following Jude Bellingham’s path and going to Dortmund. From what I hear, that is a genuine consideration right now.”

Jones surprised if Rangers win race for Bellingham with Dortmund keen
Rangers nabbing Bellingham would be a real signal of intent from Rangers. Not least because the England youth international is a serious talent, but because of the clubs also keen. His brother’s form might heighten that interest.
But forgetting his brother, Bellingham has earned the right to be touted as a real talent. Rangers do need a bit of freshness in midfield. Steven Davis is likely to retire at the end of the season and Glen Kamara has plenty of interest.
Landing Bellingham ahead of Dortmund – and other clubs linked like Newcastle – would be a real coup from Ross Wilson. But as Jones says, unlikely at this stage, purely because of the pulling power of other clubs.
