Speaking on the 1874 Podcast, Aston Villa journalist Gregg Evans has shared what he’s heard about Louie Barry after his impressive debut against Liverpool last week.
The striker made a number of headlines after he scored on his debut in the FA Cup, and as you can imagine, this has led to a lot of discussion about whether or not he should get a chance in the first-team this season.
Evans has done some investigating, speaking to people in and around Aston Villa, and unfortunately, it seems as though people within the club don’t think he’s ready to play Premier League football.
“I personally have Davis ahead of him still at this point in time, but I don’t necessarily think it’s a bad thing if he gets included on the bench anytime soon,” Evans said.
“Just from speaking to people in and around the club and people who know the England set-up, it feels as though he’s not quite at that level to come off the bench and affect and impact a Premier League game at the moment.”
This is a bit discouraging after Barry’s incredible debut for Aston Villa, but it makes a lot of sense.
Villa are in a position to really push for Europe, and Barry is only 17 years old, so throwing him in at the deep end in that sort of situation wouldn’t be fair.
Of course, we’d all love to see more of Barry, but he’s got a long road ahead of him in his career, so there’s plenty of time for him to get a chance.
Ian Wright’s comments on him show just how talented he is, so his chance will come one day.
It seems as though we won’t be seeing him in the team anytime soon, but he’s still definitely one to watch going forward.
