Speaking on Rio Ferdinand’s YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano has shared what he knows about Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and his recent links to Newcastle.

It’s no secret that Aubameyang’s future at Arsenal is up in the air. He’s been frozen out of the squad by Mikel Arteta after a disciplinary breach.

It doesn’t seem as though there’s a clear path back into the squad for Aubameyang at Arsenal, and thus, the London club are looking for alternative options.

A number of clubs have been linked to the Gabonese forward, and while Newcastle United have been credited with an interest, Romano is led to believe that the Magpies would rather sign a young striker.

What’s been said about Aubameyang?

Romano shared what he knows about Aubameyang and Newcastle’s plan to sign a new striker.

“To be honest, it’s a very complicated situation from the transfer market point of view and also when I ask people close to Arsenal, because they don’t have a serious bid on the table for Aubameyang. We have a lot of rumours about Newcastle and other clubs, but as of now, it’s nothing advanced,” Romano said.

“From Newcastle, I’m told they have different priorities. Their priority is young strikers at Newcastle, they want experienced players like Kieran Trippier would be, but they also want young talents and that’s what they want to do with a striker.”

Makes sense

To be honest, Newcastle are probably wise to go for a young striker rather than Aubameyang.

Yes, they’re the richest club in the world, but they still need to be savvy. Aubameyang’s market value is now only headed in one direction, and that’s downwards, while his pay packet is absolutely astronomical.

Would Aubameyang’s goals keep Newcastle up? Probably, but good footballers don’t always represent good business.
