Speaking on the Last Word on Spurs YouTube channel, Sky Sports journalist Michael Bridge has been chatting about Tottenham Hotspur and their pursuit of a new midfielder.
The London club have been in the market for a new centre-mid this month, with the likes of Franck Kessie and Weston McKennie, but it seems unlikely that either of those players will be headed to north London this month.
However, one player Tottenham are seemingly on course to sign is Sofyan Amrabat.
The Fiorentina midfielder is apparently close to joining Tottenham, and according to Bridge, he’s a player Antonio Conte really likes.
What’s been said about Amrabat?
The journalist shared what he knows about Amrabat.
“The midfield needs serious, serious work. Every time Spurs play Chelsea I think ‘Kovacic is on the bench, oh no. Kante is on the bench, oh no.’ They can’t do what they want to do this January. I know this is frustrating, the players they want, they can’t get them in right now,” Bridge said.
“Sofyan Amrabat is not first-choice, I think he’s a stopgap for now. Now, Conte, I’m told from a colleague in Italy, he really likes Amrabat. I’ve said it time and time again on Sky, if Conte likes a player, it’s good enough for me.”

Trust Conte
Amrabat may not be the most glamorous signing in Spurs’ history, but if Antonio Conte is a fan of the player, you have to trust his judgement.
Indeed, Conte is one of the best coaches in the world for a reason, he knows what makes a good footballer, and if he believes Amrabat has what it takes, you have to trust him.
There’s a reason Conte tried to sign this player at Inter, and now, it looks as though he’ll finally get his man at Tottenham.
