Speaking on The Done Deal Show, Dean Jones has been speaking about Tottenham Hotspur’s hunt for a new midfielder and Sofyan Amrabat.
Links to the Moroccan emerged earlier this week, and it seems as though Tottenham are edging closer to completing a deal for the Fiorentina midfielder.
The London club have been linked with a number of new midfield players this month, including Franck Kessie and Weston McKennie, but at this moment in time, Spurs see Amrabat as the most attainable of all of their midfield targets.
What’s been said about Amrabat?
Jones shared what he knows about Tottenham and their hunt for a new midfielder.
“They are looking at other options now. It has been reported that Sofyane Amrabat is someone they’re in talks with and that is true. They’ve gone after various midfielders in this window. They have pursued Weston McKennie and Franck Kessie, but as I understand it, Amrabat is the one they see as the most doable in this window,” Jones said.
“In a sense it’s a strange signing, because he doesn’t play that much at Fiorentina, he’s not in the team that much. That doesn’t mean he’s not a good footballer, but he’s not quite the profile of McKennie or Kessie who some may have preferred.”

Doable for a reason
Amrabat is a more attainable target than McKennie or Kessie for a reason – he’s not as good.
As Jones says, this is a player who isn’t a regular for Fiorentina. Meanwhile, McKennie and Kessie are key players for Juventus and AC Milan, two teams that are, with all due respect, better than Fiorentina.
Spurs shouldn’t just make signings for the sake of it, and perhaps they’d have been better of waiting until the summer when Kessie is out of contract to make their move for the Ivorian.
