Frank Lampard has set out what he wants to see next from Moises Caicedo, a player who has impressed him this season.

He has even gone as far as comparing the 23-year-old to former Chelsea greats N’Golo Kante and Claude Makelele.

But Lampard still sees areas where the young midfielder can grow.

Caicedo’s start to life at Chelsea was not an easy one after his move from Brighton in 2023.

But he eventually found his feet and has become a reliable presence for the Blues. Lampard has since encouraged him to maintain that consistency and help the club add more silverware to their collection.

Speaking about the comparisons between Caicedo, Kante, and Makelele on talkSPORT, Lampard said: “They (Kante and Makelele) were both amazing. I played with Maka obviously, and he was a different type to N’Golo, because N’Golo could really get around, whereas Maka basically sat in front a lot.

“But I see because of the style of play, he (Caicedo) can do the Makelele break-up stuff really, really well, close down space really quickly. Now he’s shown last season and this, that he’s got the sort of Kante bits in his game because N’Golo could do that, could arrive at the edge of the box and score.

“What he’s got to do now is just turn out consistently for the next season and hopefully try and win things with Chelsea.”

The midfielder already has two major honours under his belt from last season: a Club World Cup title and a Conference League medal.

But with what was spent on players like Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez, critics argue that anything less than challenging for Premier League titles or Champions League trophies would be a letdown.

Chelsea paid £115m to bring Caicedo from Brighton, a fee that drew plenty of attention when the deal was made.

There is not much talk about the price any more. Former goalkeeper Ben Foster, who played for Manchester United and England, recently said that Caicedo is “worth every penny.”

Speaking on his YouTube channel, he explained: “Caicedo, fantastic. Worth every penny, I’d say… Do you know what’s interesting actually? Of the £100m players that have been bought in the Premier League, Caicedo is probably the only one really where you go, ‘Yeah, he’s worth that’.”

Caicedo has three goals this season in all competitions – an area where he continues to improve after scoring just one last campaign.
