Axel Disasi’s difficult start to the season has him outside the main picture at Chelsea, and many fans wonder if there is still a path back into the squad for the French defender.

The Frenchman is currently training away from the senior squad, in a similar position to Raheem Sterling.

Enzo Maresca addressed their situations last month, explaining that both players are being given time to find the right approach. To stay sharp before possible moves in January, they have even been training with Chelsea’s Under-21s.

Chelsea’s depth at centre-back was tested to the limit in their 2-1 win over Liverpool, with Reece James and Jorrel Hato finishing the match as the central defensive pairing.

The club are dealing with several defensive issues right now. Levi Colwill is out long-term with an ACL injury, Tosin Adarabioyo missed the game due to a calf problem, and Wesley Fofana remains sidelined by concussion. Trevoh Chalobah was also unavailable, serving a suspension.

There were additional concerns when both Benoit Badiashile and Josh Acheampong had to come off against Liverpool, though it has since been confirmed that neither picked up any serious injuries.

In that context, could Disasi be brought back into the fold as cover?

Axel Disasi remains sidelined despite Chelsea’s defensive injuries

The Sun reports that despite the club’s defensive issues, Disasi won’t be brought back into the fold unless things deteriorate further.

The current situation has not changed how the club view the 27-year-old defender.

Disasi and Sterling are both registered to play for Chelsea, but the club are hoping that the upcoming international break will give them enough time to recover before their next match on 18 October against Nottingham Forest.

Despite late interest from other Premier League clubs on deadline day, Disasi opted to remain at Chelsea. The centre-back’s future, however, remains uncertain ahead of the January transfer window.
