Jesse Marsch thinks Leeds United could have scored ‘four or five goals’ during their 1-0 defeat to Arsenal in the Premier League on Sunday at Elland Road.

The Leeds boss noted that Arsenal are the ‘best team in the Premier League’, but he felt, on yesterday’s performance, his side were ‘better’, as he told Sky Sports.

Mikel Arteta’s side travelled down to Yorkshire knowing that Leeds, who were searching for their first league win since August, were going to make life as tough as possible for the leaders.

That’s exactly what was served to the Arsenal players, sprinkled with some controversy because there isn’t a Leeds game, especially at home, without it.

Patrick Bamford drove his second-half penalty wide of Aaron Ramsdale’s post, whilst also seeing a stoppage-time penalty overturned after Gabriel kicked out at the player.

Nonetheless, even though the Whites left empty-handed, Marsch was trying to see the positives, as he sent a clear message about Arsenal as a team and his own side’s display.

“That’s the best team in the Premier League right now and we were better,” said Marsch. “We are making it hard on ourselves by not capitalising on moments when we are on top in games.

“We should be up in this match, even in the second half. We should score four or five goals and we would walk out here like it’s the perfect match.”

LEEDS STILL WARMING UP

Patrick Bamford is yet to get back up to speed after returning from injury and he is key to the way Leeds attack, then there is somebody like Luis Sinisterra, who returned from his sending-off against Aston Villa.

The signs are positive for the Whites and it wouldn’t be a surprise if one win is followed up by a few.

And with games coming thick and fast, it could happen during these next few weeks, with Leicester City, Fulham and Liverpool games rounding off the month for the Yorkshire club.
