The ex-Liverpool defender wasn’t offered a contract by Leeds United last summer.

Leeds United welcomed an influx of players through their academy doors last summer. Kris Owens, however, is one who failed to make the cut.

Neither, though, were deemed good enough to earn contracts at Elland Road, and the impressive form of both Tom Pearce and Bryce Hosannah in the meantime perhaps vindicate Leeds’ decision.
But while Lattie was taken on by Wolverhampton Wanderers two months later, Owens has remained without a club until now, with Bristol Rovers – whose manager Darrell Clarke [pictured] turned down the chance to become Leeds boss in 2016 – coming to his rescue after he caught the eye during another audition.

“We are delighted to have Kris on board,” said Rovers’ Under-21 coach Chris Hargreaves, via the Bristol Post. “He has a strong football pedigree, from his time at Liverpool and we are looking forward to working with him between now and the end of the season, taking a closer look at him to see what he can offer to the playing squad within the Development Squad going forward.”
A third Leeds trialist that day, Joel Coustrain, signed for Shamrock Rovers in his native Republic of Ireland earlier this year.
