Former Rangers star Alex Rae has urged Ibrox midfielder Glen Kamara to stay at Ibrox despite Premier League interest in the Finnish international – and insists he is only going to get better and better working under Steven Gerrard and Gary McAllister.

Reports have claimed the likes of Everton, West Ham and Watford have an interest in the Rangers star and Rae wants to see him remain at Ibrox after a stunning season last term saw him help the Light Blues to the Scottish Premiership title.

Rae also picked out Steven Davis for praise, calling the Ulsterman’s showings “remarkable” last season but an extended stay for Kamara is what the Rangers TV pundit wants to see moving forward, telling The Herald: “Steven Davis’ performances were remarkable but going forward I’d really like to see Kamara stay.

“If you think back a couple of months ago, before he went to the Euros, Steven Gerrard was championing a long-term contract because he knows what he brings to the table.

“Technically, he is brilliant. He is so athletic and he reads the game brilliantly. He looks to be in a good place. But as a midfielder, you are going to get better and better working with Gerrard and Gary Mac. You just know he is going to continue on that trajectory. He has a couple of years left.”

Rangers keeping Kamara should Gerrard’s priority this summer

Rangers don’t seem to be in any hurry to move Kamara on this summer so it should be certain that he is still a member of Steven Gerrard’s squad when the season kicks off in two weeks.

The Ibrox side have been in talks over a new deal with Kamara for months so it doesn’t appear that the Finn is any rush to commit either.

With two years left on his contract, what happens over the next 12 months will determine whether Kamara remains at Ibrox beyond this season.

No new deal and it’s likely Rangers will have little option but to cash in next summer.
