Former Rangers midfielder Jamie Ness is on trial with Premiership side Motherwell, according to the Daily Record, and will feature for the Steelmen in a pre-season friendly against Dumbarton this afternoon.
Ness, who has been a free agent since leaving Dundee in October, burst through into the first-team at Rangers just over a decade ago – scoring a stunning strike against Celtic on his Old Firm debut.
After leaving Rangers to join Stoke City in 2012, Ness has played for Plymouth Argyle, Scunthopre United and Crewe Alexandra before returning to Scottish football with Dundee.
Ness made 16 appearances and scored one goal for Rangers, and made nine appearances for Scotland U17’s, nine appearances for Scotland U19’s, scoring one goal and two appearances for Scotland U21s while at Ibrox.
The midfielder also lifted the Scottish Premiership title in 2010/11.
Reunion with a familiar face for the former Rangers midfielder
An injury-hit spell with the Dens Park side saw the ex-Rangers midfielder cut short his time in Dundee but he could be reunited with former Scunthorpe United boss Graham Alexander in Lanarkshire.
The Motherwell boss worked with Ness while he was in charge of the Iron, so knows exactly what he’d bring to his side.

Alexander has already added three new faces to his side this summer as he looks to get Motherwell back into the top six, signing Connor Shields from Queen of the South, ex-Tranmere striker Kaiyne Woolery and former Maidstone United wide man Justin Amaluzor.
