Liverpool are making plenty of headlines right now, and the majority of those are about Mohamed Salah.
Whether it’s a discussion about his new contract or a debate about whether or not he’s the best player in the world right now, Salah seems to be dominating the footballing discourse right now.
To be honest, we can understand why. Salah is in red-hot form and he’s doing unbelievable things on the football pitch on a weekly basis.
Inevitably, when one player is in the limelight other players go slightly under the radar, and in our view, there’s one Liverpool player who is in the form of his life right now.
We’re talking about Naby Keita.
Keita hasn’t had it easy since he joined Liverpool. At RB Leipzig he was one of the Bundesliga club’s main men. He netted 14 goals in two seasons and he was one of the first names on the teamsheet every week in Germany.
However, at Liverpool, things are slightly different. He scored just seven goals in his first three seasons and he’s found regular football hard to come by – playing just 28 league games in the last two years.
Fortunately though, Keita seems to be hitting his best form right now. A midfield injury crisis has allowed him to play more football and he’s taken this opportunity with both hands.
He’s scored sublime volleys against both Crystal Palace and Atletico Madrid, while he put in a masterful performance against Manchester United at the weekend, scoring and assisting before he was forced off with an injury.
For the longest time, Keita has struggled at Liverpool, but over the past few weeks, he’s shown glimpses of being a player worthy of being described as ‘very good’ by Virgil van Dijk.
Salah is getting all of the praise in the world, and he absolutely deserves it, but let’s not ignore the fact that Keita is quietly having his best spell at Liverpool.
