Tottenham hit the deadline day headlines with a late £40m move for Pedro Porro, who joined Spurs along with Jude Soonsup-Bell.
Most of the attention was understandably on the Spain international, with many fans anxious about negotiations with Sporting Lisbon after talks actually collapsed just before transfer deadline day – according to The Athletic.
However, we believe the signing of Soonsup-Bell could actually prove to be the steal of the entire transfer window.
What’s the story?
Well, as Chelsea and Todd Boehly focused on spending ridiculous amounts of money on Europe’s best young talent, the Blues actually lost a wonderkid of their own to their London rivals.
As revealed by the Evening Standard, Spurs managed to sign Soonsup-Bell for free after he decided to leave Chelsea six months before his contract expired, despite being highly thought of by those at Stamford Bridge.
The 19-year-old also rejected Manchester City to join Tottenham, after the north Londoners outlined a clear pathway into the first-team for him.
It represents a major coup for Spurs, to say the least.
Soonsup-Bell made a name for himself in west London after scoring 23 goals in just 25 appearances for the Chelsea Under-18 side, including one phenomenal goal in which he waltzed into the box and backheeled home.
It speaks volumes that Chelsea wanted to keep him despite spending heavily on the likes of Mykhaylo Mudryk and Noni Madueke.
Interestingly, their expensive January overhaul actually seems to have disillusioned some of their best talent at Cobham, with the Evening Standard claiming that some at Chelsea are now concerned about more gems following Soonsup-Bell through the exit door.
Tottenham must use Soonsup-Bell
In our view, Soonsup-Bell may be more ready for first-team football than some might think.

Just look at the likes of Armando Broja, Conor Gallagher, Reece James, Tino Livramento, Marc Guehi and Mason Mount, who all emerged from Chelsea’s youth ranks before quickly slotting into Premier League action.
Based on his displays at Cobham, there is no reason why Soonsup-Bell cannot follow in their footsteps, especially with stars such as Harry Kane and Heung-min Son to learn from.
