Liverpool are currently arguably the best team in the world, but sadly, all good things have to come to an end.

Indeed, the Reds’ star players are all getting older. In one years’ time, Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, Thiago, Roberto Firmino and Jordan Henderson will all be in their 30s, and soon, a rebuild will have to begin.

Well, luckily for the Reds, that rebuild is already underway, and it looks truly incredible.

The likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota already look set to be stars of the future, while Harvey Elliott is already considered to be one of the best teenage talents in the world.

Fabio Carvalho is also seemingly set to sign, and along with his former Fulham teammate Elliott, he could form an unreal midfield pairing.

However, perhaps most excitingly, Liverpool may soon have two ready-made replacements in arguably their most important position – centre-back.

Ibrahima Konate is already at the club and earning all sorts of plaudits – he’s even been described in some circles as the next Virgil van Dijk.

However, equally as important as the next van Dijk is Joel Matip’s long-term successor, and that could come in the shape of David Carmo.

The 22-year-old is once again being linked with Liverpool, and Jurgen Klopp himself has apparently asked for this signing – so he must have something truly special about him.

The Portuguese defender has been compared to Sergio Ramos already, and at just 22, he still has so many years of development ahead of him.

If Carmo signs, he and Konate could easily take the reins from Matip and van Dijk in the coming years, and while there has been a lot of focus on the succession planning further up the pitch with Carvalho and Elliott and Diaz and Jota; Carmo and Konate could be yet another fantastic young pairing at Liverpool.
