Nuno Espirito Santo’s reign at Tottenham Hotspur couldn’t have gotten off to a better start.
The Portuguese gaffer has won both of his league games in charge of Spurs so far, and it’s fair to say that certain players have improved under his management.
Lucas Moura has looked excellent under Nuno, while Dele Alli has seemed like a different man in a new role.
However, one player who has looked reborn under the new manager is Davinson Sanchez, and he deserves more credit for his resurgence.
Last season, Sanchez was sadly seen as a bit of a liability at Spurs. In fact, he was even described as ‘shocking’ by Jamie Carragher at one point, but thus far this term, he’s looked worth every penny of the then club-record fee Spurs paid for him.
Sanchez has played every minute so far for Spurs in the league this term, and he’s flourishing.
He’s averaging three tackles per game, for context, only four players averaged higher in the Premier League last term, and Spurs are still yet to concede a goal this season.
Sanchez is also making 2.5 blocks per game, which is a huge contributing factor to Spurs’ defensive resurgence, while his six clearances per match have made sure that any dangerous situations are snuffed out rather quickly.
This time last year, Sanchez was renown for making silly decisions, dawdling on the ball and misjudging situations, but now he looks assertive, composed and even intelligent.
Dele Alli may be getting most of the plaudits, but Sanchez’s rebirth deserves the same level of attention.
