Sander Westerveld has claimed on Instagram that Liverpool ‘don’t need players that don’t want to come’ after Aurelien Tchouameni decided to join Real Madrid in a transfer blow to the club.
The Athletic report that the Monaco midfielder is set to join the Champions League holders, after both clubs agreed on a total package worth more than £85 million.
Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano did claim on Twitter that Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp did phone the 22-year-old personally in order to persuade him to come to Anfield.
But the sought-after star has decided to move to Spain, with the defensive-minded midfielder starting France’s last two games in the UEFA Nations League.
Nonetheless, upon hearing about Tchouameni’s decision, former Reds keeper, Westerveld, made it clear that it’s time to ‘forget about him’, as he posted in the comments section of Liverpoolgoals’ Instagram post.
“We don’t need players that don’t want to come,” said Westerveld. “No disrespect to him.
“Fair enough, his choice. But forget about him and up to the next.”
TCHOUAMENI PURSUIT PROVES LIVERPOOL LOOKING FOR A MIDFIELDER
Whilst all the talk and spotlight is on Liverpool’s forward areas, given the drama around Sadio Mane.
Liverpool’s pursuit of Tchouameni proves that Klopp is looking for that midfielder this summer.
It will be interesting to see who they push for next because the club have shown in the past that if they can’t get their man, then they are willing to wait.
Someone like Jude Bellingham has been admired by the club for a long while and he would be a perfect addition to the team.
But surely Borussia Dortmund wouldn’t sell two of their star players in one summer, after selling Erling Haaland to Manchester City.
