Leeds United had a very quiet January transfer window, and that may mean they’re in line for yet another hectic summer.

The Whites spent close to £100 million in the summer window in 2020, and while we don’t know if they’ll splash that much this year, it does seem as though they’re going to be active.

Indeed, there have been reports that Leeds are desperate to bolster at centre-back, while Phil Hay has said he expects them to bring in a midfielder as well.

However, despite those positions needing attention, we can’t help but think there is another problem area that needs fixing first.

Of course, we’re talking about the goalkeeper position.

Now, we’re not saying that Illan Meslier needs to be dropped or that he needs replacing, but depth in that position is a real problem at Elland Road.

Marcelo Bielsa may be a fan of Kiko Casilla, but everytime he steps onto the pitch he looks susceptible to an error, making a string of high-profile mistakes last season, while he also had a nightmare of a performance earlier this season against Crawley.

Meslier has been brilliant this season, but Casilla’s troubling form means that Leeds should be looking at a backup this summer.

If the Frenchman gets injured, the Whites would be forced to call upon Casilla, and that could inevitably lead to dropped points, and when you’re not an established Premier League force, that can have a huge adverse affect.

If Victor Orta is to target one position in the summer, it should be a goalkeeper, not a left-back or a midfielder.
