Former striker Jermain Defoe has stated that ‘for sure’ Manchester United will finish above Arsenal in the Premier League this season.

Now back in Tottenham colours working as a coach, Defoe highlighted how well Erik ten Hag’s side are now playing and how they can continue to do us under his stewardship, as he told Premier League Productions.

Whilst those at Old Trafford are getting that type of backing from Defoe, it’s Mikel Arteta and his Arsenal team sitting top of the Premier League tree after six games.

The Gunners were aiming for six wins from six on September 4, only for their old rivals to spoil their party and inflict a first defeat of the new season on the north London side.

It now means that Manchester United, who lost their opening two matches including a trashing at Brentford, are now on a four-game winning run.

As a result, the 20-time English champions are fifth in the table, three points behind Arsenal, who have a +7 better goal difference, as Defoe backed the former to turn this around over the course of the campaign.

“I am going to say yes, aren’t I,” said Defoe. “But, in terms of their (win over Arsenal), how they are playing and how they look like they are going to play now, then I will say yes, for sure, Manchester United will finish above Arsenal.”

ARSENAL CAN PULL FURTHER AWAY

English football was postponed over the weekend because of the Queen’s death and it does resume this Friday night, starting with Aston Villa’s home clash against Southampton.

Not everybody will be in action, including Manchester United’s showdown against Leeds being postponed, but Arsenal are in action on Sunday.

They will make the short trip across London to take on Thomas Frank’s Brentford and in with a chance to extend their lead at the top of the table.

This was the opening fixture of last season, which saw Arsenal fall to a defeat, so this is an ample chance to put that nightmare from the previous campaign behind them.
