Sunderland are reportedly closing in on a player that would be excellent for Rangers.

English League One giants Sunderland are reportedly closing in on the signing of Peterborough captain Jack Baldwin but Rangers should seriously consider rivalling Jack Ross’ new side.
The Chronicle claim Sunderland are winning the race for the 24-year-old centre-back, who impressed for The Posh last season by scoring three goals and helping his side keep nine clean sheets in 43 outings.
Sky Sports claimed last week that The Black Cats were looking to tie up a deal to land Baldwin for a bargain £250,000 fee, but that should convince Steven Gerrard to make a move.

It is clear that the League One star is worth far more than the six-figure fee, but with only a year left on his contract, Peterborough are seemingly looking to sell in order to gain some cash rather than lose him on a free in a year’s time.
Gerrard has signed two centre-backs this summer in Connor Goldson and Nikola Katic, but he needs to be in the market for another commanding defender as doubts remain over two of his current options at the heart of defence.
Indeed, the Liverpool legend has waved goodbye to David Bates and Russell Martin, before telling Fabio Cardoso that his game time at Ibrox will be limited. He is also set for talks with veteran defender Bruno Alves after the World Cup.

If Alves and Cardoso leave, then, that sees Gerrard boast just his two new signings and Ross McCrorie – who is preferred in holding midfield.
The Gers need another central defender, then, and adding a player such as Baldwin at the bargain price of £250,000 would give Gerrard some much-needed cover without spending over the odds.
