Andy Brassell has warned Premier League clubs to think twice before rushing to sign RB Leipzig talent Yan Diomande.

The respected football expert believes Liverpool and Tottenham would be wiser to wait before spending big.

The £87 million-rated midfielder has impressed scouts across Europe. His composure and athleticism have made him a key name in transfer discussions.

But Brassell’s message was clear: patience might be the smarter move. He argued that Diomande’s current environment is helping him grow faster than a move could. That formed the base of his advice to top-flight clubs.

Premier League rush could hurt Yan Diomande’s progress

Speaking to talkSPORT, Brassell explained: “We’ve seen even players with greater experience, like Florian Wirtz for example, someone who is really used to managing games in the Bundesliga, has taken a while to adapt to the Premier League.”

“So to me, even if it’s going to cost Premier League clubs a little bit more to leave him where he is for the moment, wait for him to continue on this trajectory and then buy him, I think to save teething problems is probably worth it,” he added.

Brassell’s point echoed what many analysts have suggested in recent months: that the step from the Bundesliga to the Premier League requires careful timing, not financial power.

RB Leipzig remains the best place for development

Brassell continued, “There is no better club to develop a young footballer than RB Leipzig. They do it again and again and again.”

“So even if you do pay that little bit more for him, if you’re Spurs or Liverpool or whoever else, buying him in 18 months’ time as opposed to buying him now, you will be paying for having excellent work done on him.

“For him being so much more ready for the Premier League. And I’m sure he will be because he’s an immense talent,” he concluded.

Leipzig’s record supports that view. From Christopher Nkunku to Josko Gvardiol, the German club’s ability to polish young players has built its reputation across Europe.

Diomande looks next in line to follow that path. Evidently, for Liverpool and Tottenham, the temptation to move fast will always exist.

But if Brassell’s assessment proves right, patience could be the difference between signing potential and signing polish.
