Liverpool supporters appear to be in buoyant mood following their win over Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend.

Liverpool fans appear to be in a much more positive mood following their first Premier League win of 2017 which saw them beat top four rivals Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 at Anfield on Saturday.

Unsurprisingly, the victory is being widely discussed on fan forums such as This Is Anfield and Red and White Kop, but what else are Reds supporters mulling over following Jurgen Klopp’s side’s impressive win. Here are five of the main talking points…

The fight for second place: surprising Arsenal and Liverpool poll results

Sadio Mane

The obvious place to start is the discussion surrounding the form of Sadio Mane. The forward scored both goals against Spurs to move into double figures in the top flight this term. Unsurprisingly, supporters could not praise the former Southampton man highly enough, and fans are urging Klopp to somehow clone the 24-year-old, which – based on his current form – would make their forward line unstoppable.

Gini Wijnaldum

The signing of Georginio Wijnaldum may not have captured the imagination when he first arrived from Newcastle, considering that the Magpies had just been relegated, but it is fair to say that many Liverpool fans are now admitting that signing the Dutchman was actually a tremendous piece of business. Wijnaldum got the assist for Mane’s opener against Tottenham and his general performance was hugely impressive.

Simon Mignolet put in a strong display against Spurs, which appears to have just added to the frustration amongst supporters. The Belgian, on his day, can be one of the league’s best, but many Reds fans are refusing to get carried away as they fear that a clanger is just around the corner. Some want him sold or demoted this summer, while some are ready to give him one last chance.

Hull City's Lazar Markovic looks dejected after hitting the postLazar Markovic

Lazar Markovic looked bright during Hull’s defeat to Arsenal at the weekend, leaving supporters to wonder whether there is actually a future for him at Anfield. The majority of fans appear to be sceptical that the 22-year-old will be capable of proving anything with his parent club, but some have suggested that he was not given enough of a chance with the Reds and he is perhaps now starting to develop.

Liverpool’s captain stepping up

It has emerged that in the days leading up to the Tottenham game Jordan Henderson organised a meeting for the players to discuss their recent form and rally the side ahead of what should have been one of their most daunting fixtures (via Daily Mail). The move appears to have worked brilliantly, and the fans are delighted to see Henderson show such leadership to pull the team out of the recent rut. The fact that he also played well saw him secure plenty of praise.
