Tottenham Hotspur youngster Filip Lesniak is now playing in Denmark.
At the end of last season Tottenham Hotspur handed Slovakian youngster Filip Lesniak a call up to the first team.
The midfielder could not have done more with his brief opportunity, providing an assist for Harry Kane in a 6-1 win over Leicester City.
So his release at the end of last season came as a surprise to Tottenham fans.
Lesniak was not without a club for long, he left England and joined Danish side Aalborg.
So far his choice of club has paid off, with Lesniak made a regular starter for the top flight side.
He has made 12 first team appearances for Aalborg so far, and provided one assist.
Lesniak’s progression at Tottenham at the end of last season was in some ways a reward for his consistent under-23 performances, but it was also because it was merited.
Spurs head coach Mauricio Pochettino has a reputation for being ruthless – given the way he has ditched players like Vincent Janssen.
His decision to release Lesniak was a bit different, it was him deciding to be cruel to be kind.
Despite his faith in the midfielder, Pochettino simply could not offer him a regular place in the Tottenham first team squad.
At at 21-years-old, Lesniak needed to go and play in order to progress his career or risk his development stalling.
The decision is paying off for the midfielder now, who is playing top flight football on a weekly basis over in Denmark, and he is only just getting started.
