Rio Ferdinand says Liverpool securing the possible transfer of the ‘all-action’ Jude Bellingham would be a better signing than Chelsea bringing in Enzo Fernandez.

The New Year is here and the 2023 January transfer window is wide open, with both Jurgen Klopp hoping to add another name to the Cody Gakpo capture at Liverpool and Graham Potter looking to ease the pressure on himself at Chelsea.

Two names that are on both teams’ radar – Bellingham and Fernandez – are being tipped for moves, either this month, or more than likely, in the summer.

Argentina and Benfica star Fernandez has just come off from winning the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, so his stock is through the roof and there are talks about a possible £106 million transfer to the Premier League.

It’s slightly different for Bellingham, those in Dortmund have sold star players before and will do so with their 19-year-old captain, but it will probably happen in the summer with the Reds competing with the likes of Real Madrid for the player.

Nonetheless, when Rio Ferdinand was asked what he thinks would be the better transfer, Bellingham to Liverpool or Enzo Fernandez to Chelsea, he issued the following response, as he told Vibe with Five.

“Both are top,” said Ferdinand. “I mean Fernandez was my player of the tournament for Argentina. I thought he was so composed, his team won the World Cup and he was an integral member of that team.

“But I would have to lean on the side of Bellingham. I just think he is all-action. He affects the game, whether he plays deep, as an eight or plays almost as an eight going into a ten.

“This kid affects football matches. His whole demeanour. I don’t know Fernandez well enough. I probably know a reason why I am learning towards Bellingham, it’s because I know more about him.

“Bellingham, in terms of just driving culture, the right type and the right profile for this league. He would be my hands-down and standout signing, in that sense.”

BELLINGHAM OR ENZO FERNANDEZ?

Two big stars of the World Cup, two midfielders on the rise and players that will probably be competing in the Premier League next season.

It will be interesting if they end up on the same team because that would be some coup.

But given the figures that are been spoken about, more than likely, the team that misses out on Bellingham will probably push towards Fernandez and vice versa.

Either way, their attacking qualities on the ball and aggression of the ball are needed at Liverpool and Chelsea.
