Valencia are open to letting Jesus Vazquez leave in the January transfer window with Premier League duo Leeds United and Tottenham Hotspur eyeing the Spain U21 international, sporting director Miguel Angel Corona tells Marca

After forcing his way into the first-team picture at the Mestalla last season, 2022/23 had the makings of a breakout campaign for Vazquez. It’s safe to say things aren’t exactly going to plan.

Gennaro Gattuso does not appear to share predecessor Jose Bordalas’ admiration for the exciting 19-year-old; Vazquez starting just two La Liga games. Toni Lato and the experienced Jose Gaya remain ahead of him in Valencia’s pecking order.

As such, Valencia will not stand in Vazquez’s way should he depart in pursuit of more regular first-team minutes.

“At this moment, we are evaluating the possibility of him leaving in January,” says Corona. “He will want to play more, and it’s fantastic that a footballer has that feeling.

“I am not going to talk about (release) clauses.”

Tottenham Hotspur and Leeds United like Jesus Vazquez of Valencia

According to Inter Live, Tottenham have joined the race for Vazquez. Adventurous and attacking, the teenager looks well-suited to Antonio Conte’s wing-back system. Then again, Spurs only recently spent £20 million an another up-and-coming left-sider in Destiny Udogie.

Leeds United, then, could be a more fitting destination given Vazquez’s desire for action. Pascal Struijk continues to fill in on the left; both Stuart Dallas and Junior Firpo enduring their fair share of injury problems.

Tuttosport believe that Valencia may be tempted to accept offers of just £3.5 million.

“Economically, we are tight in the sense of registering players,” adds Corona; indicating that Valencia may be forced to sell before they can buy in January.

“It is true that we carried out many operations to free up (funds) that would allow us to register other players.”
