One of Tottenham’s main problems this season is undoubtedly their lack of firepower up top.
Harry Kane has scored just one league goal and his understudy at the moment is a 17-year-old Dane Scarlett who has never scored a senior league goal in his life.
There are issues with the number nine position at Spurs, so much so that fans have even been clamouring for Fernando Llorente to return to the club.
However, one player that fans aren’t calling for to return is Carlos Vinicius, and it’s not hard to understand why.
Vinicius didn’t have the best time at Spurs. He started just three league games and scored just one Premier League goal. Therefore, it’s not too much of a surprise that the London club didn’t exercise their option to buy the Brazilian at the end of last season.
Luckily for Vinicius, there was one team willing to take a chance on the striker and he eventually joined PSV Eindhoven on another loan deal.
It’s somewhat surprising that Benfica have been keen to loan Vinicius out for two consecutive seasons. After all, he netted 18 goals in Liga NOS back in 2019/20.

However, what’s even more surprising is that the Brazilian seems to have completely lost his way.
Once again, he’s not getting much of a chance out on loan, starting just one league game for PSV thus far, and while he’s come off the bench five times, he’s still yet to score his first goal.
We’re almost three months into the new season and Vinicius still hasn’t scored a goal despite Harry Redknapp claiming that Spurs sources had described him as a ‘fantastic’ player during his time in north London.
It seems as though Tottenham made the right call in not signing Vinicius on a permanent deal.
